Room Under The Stairs
2024
“I don’t even know where to start. I know it took a while, but we’re here, you know."
Zayn
Corinne Merolla and Sooner Routhier collaborated to create a vintage theatrical stage design for Zayn's performance of tracks from his album Room Under The Stairs at Shephard's Bush Empire in London. The show was the singer's first ever headlining solo gig and his first concert since leaving One Direction in 2015. The performance featured a set design of hand painted album artwork built around a seven piece band.

How we got there
Using the album art work as inspiration, Corinne and Sooner drew a stage composed of vintage theatrical, hand painted wings, floor cloth and backdrops. Tait Towers facilitated the incredible build and painting for the show. Sitting stage left, was a wooden staircase to represent the stair from the album cover.
Throughout the night, hand drawn illustrations, created and animated by Pixels and Noise were projected on the backdrops. Birds flew from the bushes and trees. Animated, hand drawn lyrics sketched across the sky straight out of Zayn's song writing book. A large, warm sun rose from the horizon, turned into a moon and faded back to earth. The show concluded with a hand written "Thank You" across the backdrop courtesy of the artist himself.
“This is an exciting night. I’m very grateful to you all, and I hope you have a great night."
